Eliminate Manual Generation of DXF Flat Files

A key function of the engineering workflow process includes preparing information for the shop floor. This includes the generation of DXF flat files from 3D Sheet Metal CAD Models, which on the surface appears to be a quick and simple process while working on a specific part. When receiving a large batch of sheet metal parts including assemblies, the process of generating DXF flat files becomes a more labor-intensive, time-consuming workflow process. The Global Edge Engineering Assistant provides functionality that allows you to automatically process small to large batches of SolidWorks Sheet Metal CAD Models into DXF Flat Files. The Global Edge Engineering Assistant includes functionality that automatically peels the sheet metal parts from an assembly. This process also includes the incorporation of smart data into each DXF Flat File such as material, up and down bend angles. As DXF Flat Files are generated, they can optionally be sorted by material, gauge, job due date, etc. Additionally, the Global Edge Engineering Assistant adds extended data to facilitate Automated Bend Program Generation. This extended data matching machine tool bend processes including the proper tooling. This extended data includes:
  • Material
  • Material Thickness
  • Bend Radius
  • Bend Lengths
  • Bend Angles
  • PEM Hole Sizes / Locations
  • Cutouts / Embossments / Louvers
  • Machine Tool Bend Processes
The Global Edge Engineering Assistant includes an Automated Production Work Queue that allows engineers to queue up daily batches of production that is optionally integrated directly with ERP to prepare information for the shop floor. As the Work Queue executes, the software automatically matches each sheet metal part with the matching bend process and performs a "Manufacturability Test" to make sure each part can be successfully fabricated:
