2.2 - Engineering Setup
Global Edge® Engineering Assistant software is a flexible system that provides the ability to maintain a variety of engineering codes to define the processes required or the quoting, engineering, and manufacturing workflow process.
- This section includes the procedures for setting up foundational engineering related information that is utilized throughout the Global Edge system. This section is divided into the following sub-sections:

2.2.01 - Manufacturing Processes
Step 1: The first step is to open the Global Edge Engineering Assistant software by clicking on the following desktop icon:
Step 2: This will display the following screen form and menu options:
Step 3: Select "Engineering > Engineering Setup / Utilities > Engineering-Set-Up" to display the following screen form and menu options:
2.2.01 – Manufacturing Processes
This section allows you to define a list of Manufacturing Processes that are utilized throughout the Quoting, Engineering, and Manufacturing workflow process. Included with each manufacturing process is the Type of Process and Standard Cost including Unit of Measure.

2.2.02 - Process Class
This section allows you to define a list of Process Class Lookup Codes that are applied to Manufacturing Processes that are applied in Section 2.2.01 – Manufacturing Processes to categorize each Manufacturing Process.

2.2.03 - Sheet Metal Dimensions
This section allows you to define Sheet Metal Dimensions that are automatically attached to Imported CAD Parts that are utilized for Automated Quoting, Automated Routing Generation, Manufacturability Testing, and Automated Bend Program Generation.

2.2.04 - Gauge Standard
This section allows you to define a list of Gauge Standards that are utilized throughout the Global Edge system to apply to the various materials your company utilizes. This includes standards for “Steel”, “Stainless”, “Aluminum”, “Coated”, “Copper”, and “Specialty Stainless”.

2.2.05 - Document Editors
This section allows you to define a list of Document Editors utilized by your company. This list includes defining a Command Line that specifies the launch location of each Document Editor. This provides the capability to automatically launch your document editors from within the Global Edge software.

2.2.06 - Document Formats
This section allows you to define a list of Document Formats that are utilized by the Document Editors defined in Section 2.2.05 – Document Editors, which the extension of each document type.

2.2.07 - CAD Manufacturing Defaults
This section allows you to define CAD Manufacturing Defaults for each of the CAD Systems your company utilizes.

2.2.08 - Document Tree
This section allows you to define a Document Tree which determines the document types associated with a specific Document Editor. For example, Autodesk Inventor includes an assembly document with extension “IAM”. The document extensions associated with the “IAM” extension that includes “IDV”, “IDW”, “IPN” extensions. When the Global Edge software automatically launches CAD models and associated files, the software references the “Document Tree” table.

2.2.09 - Document System Format Edit
This section allows you to define a Document System Format Edit List that determines whether a document file can be edited or only viewed.

2.2.10 - CAD Materials
This section provides the capability to define CAD Material Codes that match the materials contained in your CAD system. The Global Edge system also defines raw materials in “Section 2.1.02.07 – Materials”. This section allows the translation between the “Materials” and “CAD Material” database tables.

2.2.11 - Default Sheet Sizes
This section allows you to define Default Sheet Sizes for your sheet metal sheets. The purpose of this is provide sheet sizes for automating the sheet metal nesting process.
